Each summer, our Discovery Groups take a break and are replaced by Summer Communities.
What is a Community?
Discovery Communities are groups of people who get together regularly for the purpose of connection, relationship and mission. Communities are a great way to get to know the people of Discovery and connect with them in a fun, casual way. They also create an environment for people to invite their friends to be around God’s people. This environment should be the easiest to invite a non-believing neighbor, friend or co-worker to.
As a church, our mission is to meet people where they are and lead them to be disciples of Jesus Christ who make disciples of Jesus Christ. Unlike Discovery Groups, Communities take place outside of our homes so we can more easily meet people where they already are. People in our town are in need of meaningful relationship. We hope communities will help form these new relationships that, over time, can lead to fruitful conversations of sharing the gospel and inviting non-believers to become disciples of Jesus.
Communities also provide a ‘next step’ between our large Sunday morning gathering, where we enjoy relative anonymity, and our Discovery Groups, where we pray together, read the Bible, and share honestly about how our life is going. We hope the relationships that flow out of summer communities will pave the way for thriving Discovery Groups this Fall.
